Dear parents,
On May 30th, the report of the “wise” committee (comité des sages) on gender identity was unveiled. As soon as the creation of this committee was announced, Gender Creative Kids opposed it. Given the results, we were right to do so. We published a letter in Le Devoir entitled “Les personnes trans et non-binaires sont-elles assez sages?”.
Nevertheless, we wanted the committee to hear your voices. Those of the parents of trans and non-binary kids, those of your children and those of the young adults they have become. Some of you offered your stories to the committee, hoping they would hear the love you feel for your children, but also the fears you feel for them right now, as the threat of rolling back rights looms over your families.
We regret to inform you that, on reading the report, this threat hanging over your families continues to grow. From our preliminary understanding, some of your children’s fundamental rights are at risk of being attacked, and with them, their access to a safe school environment and essential health care.
GCK will be there, GCK is already there. However, those of you who know us well know that GCK is nothing without the involvement of the parents. We are an organization founded by and for the parents of trans, non-binary and gender-creative kids who have chosen to help each other, and our gender-creative youth.
When it came time to address the “wise” committee, we called on you. Now that it’s time to address the government, we’d like to create a space with you where you can put your energy, and your ideas. We’d like to create a space by and for parents who want to support their kids and decide together how you want to take action.
